V Audio Inc. - Newsletter #002

Okay, it's been almost a year but I promised not to litter the web with blogs, so here is newsletter #002. After a shaky start, 2008 ended up being another very productive year for V Audio.
Sound design became a major player in 'o8. We significantly updated our sound effects and sample libraries, and with a Waves software upgrade that included the Restoration Bundle, we were able to work with problem audio sources with great success.

In January-February we produced a CD with Milkshake for Club Med. A really fun project but I was not able to go to Ixtapa where they played live :(

March brought the first of many projects in '08 with Gary Jobson and Jobson Sailing, the Acura Key West and Miami races for ESPN.
We also produced our first film of the year for the New York Yacht Club and their expedition to Antarctica. Later in the spring we worked on the College Nationals of sailing also for ESPN.

Spring brings baseball and MASN (Mid-Atlantic Sports Network) came through again with Orioles and Nationals TV and Radio ads.
The sound design for the HD spots were particularly fun to do.

Later in the year with Chris Nufer Radio we produced Baltimore Ravens Xtra and Big South Football and Basketball radio spots.

In the fall the work started rolling in. The first of five big projects was the Rolex Chicago to Mackinac Race with Gary Jobson for ESPN.

Next came America's First Nations, an hour show for Discovery HD with Interface Media Group and Half Yard Productions. This show about Native Americans in the Northeast 1100 years ago came with very little sound from the film shoot, so most of the "natural" sound in the show was sound design.
With that challenge and a 5.1 mix this was one of the more rewarding projects of the year.

In October we celebrated five years as V Audio Inc!

Then Jobson Sailing brought in a film for the New York Yacht Club, their 165 year history and a film for Larry Ellison, CEO of Oracle Corporation.
The New York Yacht Club has two beautiful facilities, West 44th Street in New York City and Harbour Court in Newport, RI. With two films for the NYYC this year I am hoping to become an honorary member!

Larry Ellison is a very interesting guy who builds and races world class sail boats and owns half of California. Gary produced a short film for him as a precursor for a full length film in the near future.

As soon as the Ellison film was finished Gary produced a film for Maine Tourism - Maine Built Boats, and I got to play my acoustic instruments!

In April of '09 we did all the music and sound design for the new Dolphin Show at the National Aquarium in Baltimore.

Thanks for checking us out, hope to hear from you soon.

V Audio - Newsletter #001

March 2008

Dear Friends.

Wow, 2007 was a very big year for V.

It started with the launch of vaudioinc.com
Gabriela Meneguelli and Lua Graphics did a great job of taking all of the crazy things we do and somehow have it all make cyber sense. www.luagraphics.com/

In January we mixed “Zebra Kids” by Gabriel Goodenough and Megaphone Productions, a powerful documentary film about troubled Baltimore City kids who take up African drumming and dancing.

In March we got shiny new Intel Macs!

The Discovery Channel has long been a source of fun and challenging work. Last year among many projects we mixed and sound designed Planet Earth promos, Animal Planet promos and mixed Deadliest Catch and American Chopper shows for the UK.

With Jobson Sailing it was a very busy production year. Gary Jobson is a former All-American collegiate sailor. He won the America's Cup in 1977 as tactician for Ted Turner. As a broadcaster/producer (he is ESPN's Sailing Analyst), lecturer and writer (he is an Editor at Large for Sailing World and Cruising World magazines), Jobson is the pre-eminent ambassador for sailing in the U.S.
In 2007 V Audio composed music, sound designed and did the post audio for seven films, including Acura Key West Race Week, Outward Bound, and History Of The America’s Races 1851-2007, featuring Walter Cronkite.

Over the summer we produced and co-wrote four songs with
Julia Meyerhoff, an incredibly gifted, fifteen year old singer-songwriter. This girl is going places! More on Julia coming up.

The fall of ’07 just took off.

In August we started working with the Mid Atlantic Sports Network
(MASN) and Chris Nufer Radio to produce radio spots for The Baltimore Ravens as well as Colonial and Big South conference college football and basketball.

For Bonnemaison Films we sound designed and mixed a wonderful short film “Pudgy” that premiered at the Bahamas Film Festival.

In October we started mixing shows for the up and coming Retirement Living Network.
For the series Viewpoint we mixed a segment featuring blues greats Cephas & Wiggins.

For Ted Turner we finished up the year creating sound for the film “Courageous” about the 1977 America’s Cup Race in Newport, Rhode Island, which Ted won with Gary Jobson. Originally, the sound consisted of music and narration only. Essentially it was a silent film. The task was to create the “natural” sound meaning everything from the sounds of the race to Ted’s victory walk through the streets of Newport. It was painstaking but a lot of fun and a good excuse to significantly beef up our sound effects library!

2008 has started off well.

With kid’s rock band MILKSHAKE, we produced four songs for Club Med. You can go to the web site and vote for one of the songs to be named the official song of Club Med Ixtapa.

2008 will also bring a fourth Milkshake CD, the third being the critically acclaimed “Play” released early last year.

For MASN and Chris Nufer Radio, Baltimore Orioles and Washington Nationals radio production has begun. We hope both teams have better seasons!

Currently we are working on Acura Key West and Miami Races with
Jobson Sailing for ESPN, and in May will be doing the scoring and post-production for a film about Gary’s recent trip to Antarctica.

This year will also see the launch of VictorVictor Music as a record label with the release of EAT THE MONSTER by Steel Rider.
http://www.eatthemonster.com/

This heavy metal CD originally recorded in 1986, has recently been featured on MTV – Real World / Road Rules Challenge, and has even found it’s way to the Foreign Cinema / Laszlobar dance floor in San Francisco.
www.laszlobar.com/
By popular demand we are unleashing it upon an unsuspecting public.
EAT THE MONSTER is being distributed by CD Baby and will soon be available for download on CD Baby, I Tunes, Napster and Rhapsody. The CD release date is set for April 1st. No joke.

Thank you for taking the time to check us out. We realize this is an unsolicited mailing, but promise not to bombard you or give out your email address. If you wish to not receive further updates please let us know.
Though if you know anyone who might be interested in V Audio please forward it with our thanks in advance.

All the best,

V
